My name is Jennifer Whitfield and I am a native Houstonian who lives and works in and near the Galleria area.  In February, I have the opportunity to join a team to travel to Jordan as a volunteer on a humanitarian relief trip to help serve the Syrians who have fled the brutality of ISIS and the Assad regime in Syria.

Five years have gone by since the start of the Syrian civil war, and it has catapulted into the greatest humanitarian crisis I have ever witnessed.  With no foreseeable end to the misery in sight, I have realized that average people like me will be the only resource of hope for many of those who have fled this hell on earth.  There are now 11 million Syrian refugees with 4 million of them residing in neighboring countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan.

I will be going to Jordan for 12 days in February as a part of a humanitarian relief team with Urban Catalyst, an organization that was co-founded by a friend I’ve known since childhood.  While in Jordan, I’ll spend my time distributing much needed food and supplies to refugee families, helping at a school for refugee children (most whom have missed 3 or more years of school due to the crisis), visiting refugees in their homes to listen and learn and offer hope, and being available to do anything and everything within my capacity to help ease the suffering of being displaced.

I need to raise $2500 by December 15 in order to go on this trip.  The funds will cover my airfare, food, lodging, and expenses in Jordan as I serve Syrian refugees.  I am excited about this opportunity, and it is my way of showing how much I care for those in dire need of food, supplies, and hope, in such a time as this.  I will be very grateful for any support you can provide so that I may be able to take this journey.
